James and Mary Jane were married 21 Oct 1875 at Marion County, Iowa. Note: Cemetery lists death date as 17th and obit has 18th. From computer calculation based on age at death (80y 1m 18d) I believe the date of 17th is correct.

OBITUARY NOTICE, (Marion County, Iowa), Thursday, June 21, 1923
JAMES NELSON SPEED
James Nelson Speed, one of the old settlers southeast of Pleasantville, died at his home one-half mile east of Fairview church early on the morning of Monday, June 18, 1923, aged 80 years, 1 month, 18 days. He was an uncle of George Speed who died in Pleasantville on Wednesday, morning of last week.
The late deceased had resided continuously on the farm where he died since early 1875. His was the first death in the family during those 48 years.
He leaves his widow, seven grown children, 22 grandchildren and numerous other relatives, besides a large circle of friends.
The funeral services were held in Fairview church yesterday, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.A. Longnecker of Knoxville, M. E. church.
Burial was made in Lincoln cemetery.
