He married Kathryn Hermes on Aug. 29, 1950, in the St Anthony Catholic Church in Harper, Texas, by the Rev. A.A. Gitter.
Alanzo served in World War II with the 100th Air Service Squadron, 58th Service Group from 1942 to 1946 in the South Pacific. He received the Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal with three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation ribbon with one Bronze Star, good conduct medal, victory ribbon, one service strip and four overseas service bars. After the war, he returned to work on the family farm in Harper. From 1948 to 1961, he was employed with B.F. Goodrich as a Test Fleet Driver. He started working at Mooney Aircraft on the assembly line and retired in 1989.
Alanzo is survived by his wife, Kathryn Wahrmund; two daughters, Karen Storms and husband, Chuck, and Marian Wahrmund, all of Kerrville; two sons, Allan Wahrmund and Dennis Wahrmund and wife, Alice, all of Kerrville; grandsons, Shane Wahrmund, Eric Wahrmund, Brian Wahrmund, Richard Wahrmund and Kyle Gallie, all of Kerrville; great-granddaughter, Brittany Wahrmund of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Taylor Wahrmund and Jaydon Wahrmund, both of Kerrville; great-grandsons, Dakota Wahrmund and Eric Wahrmund II, both of Kerrville; a step-granddaughter, Brandy Lovell and husband, Billy, of Hockley, Texas; three step-great-grandchildren, Galyn and Preston Berry and Brely Lovell, all of Hockley, Texas; brother, Walter Wahrmund of Kerrville; brother-in-law, Robert Jenschke of Kerrville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Mary Jenschke and Viola Lehne, all of Harper; one brother, Ervin Wahrmund of Mountain Home; two nephews, Anthony Wahrmund and Ervin Wahrmund Jr., both of Kerrville; and one great-nephew, Robert Walker of Harper.
A rosary for Alanzo will be recited at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, with Deacon Charles Dominguez officiating. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2007, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with Father Michael Peinemann, celebrant. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories.
