Mississippi Private Field Artillery, WWII - Entering the military on Sep 2, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, he was assigned to Battery B, 440th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Armored Division. Pvt. Hartzog sacraficed his life near Behelp, Netherlands (Holland). This engagement was known as The Battle of The Canals.

Hartzog Remains To Be Returned Friday Morning

A telegram to the family of the late Curtis E. Hartzog from the War Department announced that the remains of their son is due to arrive in Foxworth Friday morning at 8:10 a.m. from the Graves Registration Divison in Memphis.
This is the second of this section's war dead of World War II to be returned for burial. Charlie T. Oxner, the first to be returned was buried last week.

Pvt. Curtis E. Hartzog Buried at Silver Creek

The Funeral of Curtis Ellis Hartzog, age 34, Private, Field Artillery, was conducted from the First Methodist Church of Silver Creek on last Friday with Rev. Jones, his pastor, assisted by Rev. Moody, officiating.

Pvt. Hartzog enlisted in the service on Sept. 1, 1943, and met his death in Holland in action on Oct. 30, 1944.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Agnes Jolly Hartzog; father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hartzog, Silver Creek; sisters, Mrs. S. J. Garner, Carson; Damie Ruth Hartzog and Eva Dale Hartzog, Silver Creek; brothers, W. H. Hartzog, Denham Springs, La.; George, Thomas and Alvin Hartzog, Silver Creek; and grandfather, C. N. Wilson, Silver Creek.

Military rites were performed by the Ceremonial Squad of Post No. 43, American Legion, D. H. Price, Commander, with the following Legionaires as active pallbearers: Joseph Magee, Howard Barnes, Lynn Buckley, Johnnie Dewitt, Ingram Foster, Jr. and Carroll Mikell.

Interment was in the church cemetery.
