HICKORY - Nell Rhyne Armstrong, 81, passed away Sept. 27, 2009, at her residence.
Born March 22, 1928, in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Essie Rhyne.
Mrs. Armstrong was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Hickory. Her passion was art and as an artist she expressed her love of nature in her beautiful paintings which she generously gave to many friends and family. She loved to decorate her home for every season and holiday. She also enjoyed reading and traveling. Her greatest joy was in spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Emily Armstrong Long and two brothers: Ned and Gerald Rhyne.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Billy M. Armstrong of the home; a daughter, Linda C. Armstrong of Hickory; two granddaughters: Linda Gail Duckett and husband James of Taylorsville, NC and Shannon Faust and Michael Bailey of Hickory; her "favorite" grandson, Bruce Faust, Jr. and wife Denise of Newton, NC; a great-granddaughter: Tristen Bailey of Hickory; a sister: Delaine Denton and husband Carl of Gastonia, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Griffis officiating.
Burial will be at Catawba Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends an hour and a half prior to the service from 1:30 – 3:00 in the church parlor.
Nephews and special friends will serve as pallbearers.
