Lacey Allen Jones Sr. eased into the loving arms of his Savior on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at the Cedars Nursing Home in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the age of 76.

He was the eldest son of Cora Agnes Ayers Jones and Watson Obediah Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his brothers, Obediah Watson Jones and Roosevelt Lewis Jones; and his sister, Maggielean Edith Jones Nicholas.

He surrendered his life to Christ at an early age through baptism at First Baptist Church, Main Street, Charlottesville, Virginia, and attended Union Run Baptist Church, Shadwell, Virginia.

He was educated in the Charlottesville Public School system and graduated from Jackson P. Burley High School in 1953. While attending Jackson P. Burley, he excelled academically and athletically. He demonstrated exemplary loyalty and a strong work ethic during the more than 60 years was an employee of King Lindsay Printing Company, the City of Charlottesville and The Daily Progress.

He always appreciated and admired a job well done, honesty and the ability to laugh at oneself. He loved early morning walks, good conversation and good friends.

He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and infectious laugh, loving spirit and generosity. His inner strength, humility and willingness to serve others will always be an example to those who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife and companion of more than 50 years, Julia Pryor Jones; two sons, Lacey Jr., and Taber, two daughters, Cynthia "Cindy", and Leslie "Rail", one sister, Cora "Dolly", two brothers, Arthur, and William "Popcorn", five grandchildren, seven stepchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial celebration of life was held Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Zion Union Baptist Church, 1015 Preston Avenue, Charlottesville, Viriginia. The Reverend Lloyd A. Cosby Jr. officiated with the Reverend Ernie Morse delivering the Eulogy.

The family respectfully requests that any memorial contributions be made in memory of him to the Alzheimer's Association, 674 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
