Joseph and Mary Dues

Joseph Dues and Mary Kaup were married on May 2, 1917, in St. Peter, Ohio; they had thirteen children. They lived in Philothea and St. Henry, and their later years were spent at 420 West Walnut Street, Coldwater.

Joseph J., son of Bernard and Elizabeth (Winker) Dues, grew up in Philothea. He worked at the Dues Sawmill and graduated from Coldwater. He attended Bowling Green. Miami and Kent University. Joseph taught fifty-six years in various schools in the county.

Mary T., daughter of Anton and Wilhelmina (Patt) Kaup, went to Oakland School. She and Joe ran the store in Philothea for several years after they were married.

They had seven daughters and six sons; Genevieve Schmitz (Greg); Wilma Naber (Vern); Helen Homan (Tom); Sr. Maria C.P.P.S.; Jeanette Billerman (Bill); Marilyn Froelich (Will); Mary Ann Post (Don); Harold (Deceased); Wilfred; Joseph (Deceased); Stanley; Lowell; and, Gregor.

Mary died on February 7, 1983, and Joseph on October 8, 1986. They are both burried in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater, Ohio.

Mary Theresa Dues, 84, 420 W. Walnut St., Coldwater died Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Community Hospital, Coldwater, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 2, 1898 in St. Jospeh, Tenn., the daughter of Anton and Wilhelmina (Patt) Kaup. On May 2, 1917, she was married at St. Peter to Joseph J. Dues, who survives.

Also surving are six sons, Harold, Dayton; Wilfred and Stanley, both of Celina; Joseh G., Findlay; Lowell, Coldwater; and Gregor, Saginaw, Mich.; seven daughters, Mrs. Gregory (Genevieve) Schmitz, St. Henry; Mrs. Wilma Huelsman, Minster; Mrs. Tom (Helen) Homan, Mrs. William Jeanette) Billerman, Mrs. Willard (Marilyn) Froelich and Mrs. Don (Mary Ann) Post, all of Coldwater. and Sr. Maria Deus, C.PP.S., Columbus Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Will, New Bremen; and Mrs. Nettie Lennartz, Coldwater; a brother, John Kaup, Celina; 47 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Three brothers, three sisters and one grandchild are deceased.

Mrs. Dues was a homemaker and member of Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater, and St. Ann's Altar Sodality of the church.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church by the Rev. John White. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Hogenkamp's Funeral Home, Coldwater from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday and until the hour of services Thursday.
