Adam graduated from Gettysburg College in 1878, Gettysburg Seminary in 1881, and received a Doctorate of Divinity from Susquehanna University in 1903.

Adam served as a pastor with the following charges: Rossville, PA 1881-83; York Springs - (Holy Trinity Lutheran Church & Chestnut Grove Lutheran Church) ,PA 1883-85; North Platte, NB 1885-90; Quickel's Charge (Quickel's, Paradise, Wolf's and Mt. Zion Churches) - York Co. 1890-1922.

Adam was the author of the following books: "The Life of Huhlenberg", "The History of the West Pennsylvania Synod" and "The Secret of the Canyon".

According to a York Dispatch article, Adam's church in North Platte was particially financed by Col. William F. Cody (Buffalo Bill) whom was described as a warm personal friend.

Adam served as the chaplain of the local branch of the Union Veteran Legion. He also served as chaplain and trustee of the York Cadets. He was the president of the board of trustees of the York Co. Academy.
