The Rev. James Franklin Cox Sr., 71, 2115 Northwood Rd., Powderly, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, Mar. 21, 1994, at St. Joseph's Hospital & Health Center. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 23, in the Ramseur Baptist Church with Dr. Roy Johnson, Dr. Wilbur Simmons and the Rev. Danny Moody officiating. Burial will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery. The body will lie at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Cox was born Mar. 31, 1922, in Walters, OK, a son of Charles and Sarah Gates Cox. He attended schools in Walters and Arlington Baptist College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He married Luella Smith in Waurika, OK, on Mar. 7, 1942. He has pastored several churches in the area including Community Baptist Church in Paris, Arthur City Baptist Church, Fannin Bible Baptist Church in Bonham, and had been interim pastor at the Lakewood Baptist Church in Paris. He was a member of Ramseur Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, James F. Cox Jr. and Jan of Krum and Charles W. and Nancy Cox of Powderly; a daughter-in-law, Toni Dennis of Paris; nine grandchildren and their spouses, James P. Cox III and La Ressa of Gainsville, Cindy M. and Michael Bird of Krum, Trixie and Terry Williams of Paris, Kimberly Cox of Krum, Brandy Cox of Paris, Katherine Sue Cox of Odessa, Charles Cox, James M. Cox, and Keisha Cox, all of Powderly; a great-grandchild, Tevin Williams of Powderly; two brothers, Marvin Cox and Orville Lee Cox, both of Duncan, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, J.B. Cox. Pallbearers will be Rev. Terry Moore, the Rev. Tony Moody, the Rev. John Criswood, the Rev. Billy Rose, Ray Winfrey and Larry Townes.
