Interment followed in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Bergman died Wednesday, July 24, in Livingston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Sol Harry Bergman, and granddaughter, Candy Bergman.
She was born on May 7, 1913 in Livingston, the daughter of the late Dr. R.B. Love and Ola Greer Love.
She graduated from Livingston High School in 1930 and then attended Texas Women's University in Denton for two years and the University of Texas in Austin for one year. She married Dr. Sol Bergman on Sept. 14, 1933 in Humble. As a lifetime resident of Livingston, she served as dispatcher for the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department for seven years. In the early 1960s, the LVFD had no radio communication but, with contributions, the department was finally able to purchase a radio system. No entity, city or county, was willing to provide dispatch, so "Mrs. Ola," hearing the plight, volunteered her services and became not only the LVFD's first dispatcher but the first 24-hour dispatcher in Polk County history. She said she considered the 25 firemen as her adopted sons. Her own son, James, was one of the volunteers. Mrs. Bergman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was known as a devoted wife and mother.
Mrs. Bergman is survived by two sons, S. Harry Bergman and wife Janet Bergman of Frankston and James Bergman and wife Julie Bergman of Livingston; sister, Florida Faye McMahan of Tyler; grandsons, Robert Bergman and wife Rena Bergman of Phoenix, Ariz. and Dandy Bergman and wife Karen Bergman of Livingston; granddaughters, Brenda DeWitt and husband Charlie DeWitt of Dripping Springs, Tracey Scasta and husband Craig Scasta of Austin and Molly Moore and husband Stuart Moore of Livingston; great-grandchildren, Chad Bergman, Sean DeWitt, Brian DeWitt, Colin DeWitt, Hallie Scasta, J.L. Bergman and Candy Moore; two nephews, Joe McMahan and wife Betty McMahan of Houston and Bob McMahan and wife Lucille McMahan of Kerrville and numerous friends.
