Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Coats died Friday at his residence. He was the district 1 agent of the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service. He was an Alabama extension agent for 26 years and previously worked with the Kentucky Extension Service. He received his undergraduate degree in general agriculture from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and received a Masters degree from Auburn University in 1965 in dairy nutrition. He also held an education specialist degree from Mississippi State University which he received in 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Coats; one daughter, Rebecca Coats of Mobile; three brothers, Euel Coats of Starkville, Mississippi, Douglas Coats of Horse Cave, Kentucky, and William O Coats of Woodbridge, Virginia; four sisters, Jean Holt of Munfordville, Kentucky, Mary Tyler of St. Augustine, Florida, Patty Jaggers of Camner, Kentucky and Betty Rose Suttle of Bethpage, TN.
Pallbearers will be J.O. Conway, Sam Fowler, Curtis Grissom, Bill Curtis, Gaines Smith, Curtis O'Daniel, Grady Wakefield and Jack Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be county and state staff at the Cooperative Extension Service."
