Specialist Fourth Class Donald Lee Gibson, age 23, was from Milford, Delaware.

He served with C Co, 2nd Bn, 27th Infantry, 25th Inf Div, USARV as a Infantryman.

He was "Killed In Action" as the result of an Explosive Device (Grenade, Mine, Booby Trap, etc.) in the Gia Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

He was awarded the " Silver Star " and the Purple Heart.

Donald is located : Line 51W Panel, row l0 on the Vietnam War Wall, Washington, D.C.

Article from Milford Chronicle,July 26,1968

CITY SOLDIER DIES IN ACTION:

Specialist 4th Class Donald L.Gibson of Milford was killed in action in Vietnam, it was learned here by his family on Sunday morning.
The 23 year old soldier, son of Byron P. and Florence Gibson, 501 S.Walnut Street here, died July l9, of fragments of "hostile explosive boobytrap" while on patrol Northwest of Saigon. A member of the 27th Infantry Division "Wolfhound" he had been in Vietnam 5 weeks before he was killed.
The family was notified of his death by Sgt.Cooper of Dover AFB at 8am Sunday morning, and received the official Department of Defense telegram at l0:30 that same morning.
Specialist Gibson was born and schooled in Milford, a 1967 graduate of the University of Delaware with a bachelors degree in Psychology. He was a member of the Avenue Methodist Church.
He received his basic training at Fort Dix, NJ and advanced training at Fort Benning Georgia.
He is survived by his parents, his brother Robert, sister Mrs. William Kimmel, wife of Milford dentist "Buddy" Kimmel, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. L.G. Mackert who resides with his parents.
Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time.

He was a member of Milford High's basketball team, football team, baseball team.
He was known to be seen around town driving his 1950 Dodge Dart.
