C. C. Lorenz At Rest

Charles Christopher Lorenz, a resident of Aitkin the past 14 years, passed away last week Thursday, April 8, 1943, at the age of 87.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., Sept. 6, 1856, and married Miss Paulina Schultz [sic] in 1879. They made their home in various places in Minnesota coming here from Akeley. Mr. Lorenz at one time was a landscape gardener and with a keen appreciation of nature laid out many attractive gardens for those by whom he was employed.

Shortly after coming to Aitkin to make their home, Mrs. Lorenz suffered a stroke that made her an invalid. Through all the years that followed Mr. Lorenz gave his wife his undivided attention caring for her to the full limit of his strength until he was stricken with his last illness a month ago. Realizing he would not recover his health his only regret was he could no longer care for his wife and had hoped that his life might be spared to complete his devotion to her.

Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz had been members of the Methodist church more than 40 years, and his funeral was held from the Aitkin church Saturday afternoon with the Rev. H. I. Munson officiating, assisted by the Rev. R. E. Smith of the Gospel Tabernacle.

With Mrs. Smith at the piano, Rev. Mr. Smith and Stephanie Cofield sang.

Pallbearers were H. D. McNeil, A. W. Kothe, Steven Jacobs, Steven Cofield, Win Marsh and Ludwig Henderson. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Lorenz are his wife, three sons and two daughters. Ernest of Downing, Wis.; Mrs. Mabel McAliley, who moved here from Crosby to care for her parents; Mrs. Eadie Gibson, Brooten, Minn.; Earl of Minneapolis and Willard of Richmond, Calif.

Relatives coming for the funeral were the son Earl from Minneapolis, Mrs. Gibson from Brooten, Mrs. Hugh McAliley and daughter Linda Joy, of Faribault, Minn.
