Cornelius G. Archer was born on July 25th, 1854 in Noble County, Ohio, and departed this life on January 2, 1835, aged 80 years, 5 months and 8 days.

He came to Cloud County about the year 1883 and in 1886 was united in marriage to Ada Bell Newell. To this union was born the following children: C. Lee Archer, Naperville, Ill.; Clerc, who died with the "flu", being taken from camp to Kansas City; Mrs. Roscoe Hare, Glasco, Kansas; Mrs. Frank McBane, Glasco, Kansas; Mrs. D.T. Minner, Sacramento, Cal.; Mrs. D. E. Swann, Kettleman City, Cal.; Mrs. Charles Peck, Salina; Mrs. Walter Smith, Dinuba, Cal.; also 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

There are six brothers, Joseph, Dempsey, Finley, Emory, and Marion, all of W. Virginia and Ohio; and one sister, Miss Alice Archer.

He is what is known as a "self-made man" as he started for himself early in life, teaching school in the vicinity of Concordia. He later engaged in the Lumber business and resided in Scottsville, Beloit and Glasco, where he resided for many years, first for the Chicago Lumber Co. and later with the Golden Belt Lumber Co. He was in continuous service for these firms for 23 years.

The Archers are of English origin and were early settlers in Virginia. They were patriots of the Revolutionary War. Mr. Archer took great pains too, and was proud of being able to trace his ancestry back to those times.

He became a member of this church July 8, 1906 and was an active member of the Sunday School and a member of the Men's Brotherhood class when organized. Just a few days ago they wrote him a greeting and sent a potted flower. These men are singing hymns of comfort to loved ones, and will bear him to his last resting place.

Oldham -- Archer

Mrs. S.E. Oldham of Parkersburg, W. Virginia, and Mr. C.G. Archer of this city were united in marriage at the groom's residence in Glasco last Friday evening, the Rev. F.N. Stelson of the First Methodist church, officiating.

The bride, while unknown to the people of the community, comes from the old boyhood home of the groom in Virginia where she has a host of friends and relatives who hold her in high esteem, and those of our people who have met her are very favorably impressed.

The groom is well known to all of us, he is one of our pioneer citizens in whom the community extends the wish for many years of happiness and prosperity to he and his bride.
