Mr. Sandy Junior Hughes of 2408 Sutphin Rd., South Boston, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 96.
Mr. Hughes was born in Halifax County on Jan. 24, 1913, to the late Mr. Sandy J. Hughes Sr. and Mrs. Della Mitchell Hughes.
His survivors include eight nieces: Mrs. Constance T. Wilder, Mrs. Deloris T. Davis, Mrs. Ina T. Wynn and Mrs. Hilda T. Mouzon of Stanford, CT; Mrs. Gaithan H. Bailey of Hampton, Mrs. Margaret H. Coleman and husband William of Alton; and Mrs. Annie H. Woody and Mrs. Valarie H. Ferrell and husband William of South Boston; three nephews: Mr. William Hughes of Petersburg, Mr. Edward Hughes of South Boston and Mr. Eddie H. Hughes and wife Lucy of Halifax; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 11, at noon, at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Rev. James Lee Carrington officiating.
Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, North Main Street, South Boston.
