CELEBRATES 50 WEDDED YEARS
Over one hundred relatives and friends attended the open house honoring the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles O. Mullis, 1 June at the Legion Hall. Mrs. J. N. Montgomery served from a four-tiered cake and Mrs. Harlan Laning served punch from a decorated table. Mrs. Charles Mullis and daughter had charge of the gifts and Mrs. Keith Mullis registered the guests. The hall was decorated with arrangements of garden flowers made by Mrs. O. T. Cox and Randy Key.
All of Mr. and Mrs. Mullis' family were present except one granddaughter, Mrs. Richard Titus and family. Families attending were: Mr. and Mrs. J. N. (Freda) Alexander and sons, Oak Grove, MO.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mullis and family, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Mullis and family, Mr. ans Mrs. Melvin Shellenberger, Pittsburg; Kent Shellenberger and three sons and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Thompson and children, Overland Park,; Mrs. Daisy Thompson, Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Sim Linn and children, Kansas City; Mrs. Ellen Miller and Mrs. Ruth Arnold, Pleasanton.
Miss Emma Thompson and Mr. Charles O. Mullis were united in marriage 27 May 1919 at the Baptist parsonage in Butler by Rev. Rainey. They have lived all their wedded life in Hume and vicinity.

Funeral services for Charles O. "Chot" Mullis, 80, of Hume, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, 17 December at the First Baptist Church in Hume, Rev. Jay Borders officiated.
Music was furnished by a vocal duet composed of Jay and Jeanette Borders who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace", Izella Dodson accompanied them on the piano.
Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Steven and Michael Mullis, Danny Odell Mullis, Kevin Odell Mullis, Clifford and Craig Laning, Gregory and Bradley Alexander, Kevin, Ronny, Jeffrey, Terry and Darren Mullis.
Mr. Mullis was born 10 October 1895 at Worland, Missouri, the son of Wesley S. and Ida I. Queen Mullis. He was a retired farmer and worked for the Blaker Elevator and Lumber Co., in Hume and was a bus driver for the Hume schools. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hume where he served as a deacon for many years. He had lived in the Hume area most of his life.
Mr Mullis married Emma Margaret Thompson 17 May 1919 at butler, she died 3 July of this year.
Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Charles W. Mullis of Independence, Missouri; Gerald Keith Mullis of Memphis, Tennessee; Mrs. John (Freda) Alexander of Oak Grove, Missouri; and Mrs. Harlan (Brenda Kay) Laning of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; two sisters, Ruth Arnold and Ellen Miller, both of Pleasanton; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Burial was made in the Hume Cemetery with Tornedens of Hume in charge of the arrangements.
