Originally Jozef Francise Krošelj, he was born in the southern portion of the Austo-Hungarian Dutchy of Styria, in the city of Rann [modern Brežice in present day Slovenia], the son of Jozef Krošelj and Marija Kovačič. He resided in Omaha, NE, when he first came to the United States, where he met and married his future wife, Ana Urek. They moved to Sharpsburg, Allegheny County, PA where they lived and raised their family.
