Recent Death - Mrs. Kate M'Neal APPLEBY
The wife of our townsman, T.A. Appleby, died suddenly at her home in this place Sabbath morning, April 13, 1902. It was quite a shock to the citizens of our town to learn of Mrs. Appleby's sudden demise. She was known to be in delicate health for the past four months from a serious bronchial affection which rapidly continued to grow worse, but at no time was she confined to her bed. Only a few weeks ago the writer noticed her with her husband and family seated in their pew in the Presbyterian church, under the sound of the Gospel, and Friday last she was driven around a few squares of our town by her son Donald, greeting a number of her neighbors as she passed by their homes, her husband and family being hopeful that by getting out in the fresh air her health might be improved, but all to no avail. The actual cause of her sudden demise was heart trouble. Miss Kate McNeal was joined in marriage with T.A. Appleby in the year 1878. She had bee a consistent member of the Presbyterian church since 1869, and until her health failed had always been an active church worker. She leaves to mourn her husband and five children -- J. Donald, Martha P., Charles R., Janet L., and Nellie A., all at home. Two step children, John C. Appleby, of York, Pa., and Mrs. Katharine Allen, of St. Albans, Vermont. Also one sister Mrs. J.E. Harper of this place, all of whom were present at the funeral. Mrs. Appleby was aged 55 years, 7 months and 23 days. The funeral was conducted at the late home of the deceased Wednesday at 1 o'clock p.m., by her pastor Rev. Harvey W. Koehler, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. Interment in the Odd Fellows' cemetery. The grief-stricken family has the sympathy of the entire community in its sore affliction.
