An obituary appearing in the Windsor Gazette, Sept. 22, 1904 for Mrs. Emaline Balch stated that she had died Friday, Sept. 16, 1904, at her home in Sullivan and was buried in Richland cemetery Sunday afternoon. Her maiden name was Helton and she was born in Coles county, Sep. 27, 1840 [1842?]. She married Elias Renshaw, who had preceded her in death. To them were born five children, viz: Mrs. Ella Anderson, Mt. Pulaski; Mrs. Ada Doughtery, Sullivan; Clinton and John Renshaw, Richland; and Wesley Renshaw, Sullivan. On Jul. 25, 1895 she married the Rev. J. M. Balch who survived her. It was noted that she was a member of the Primitive Baptist church and was an excellent Christian wife and mother.
