Erwin came up briefly with the Detroit Tigers in 1907, and later spent five seasons in Brooklyn with the Superbas (1910), Dodgers (1911 to 1913), and Robins (1914). He finished his playing career with the Cincinnati Reds in 1914. In 635 plate appearances he batted a modest .236 with 70 runs batted in and 11 home runs.
