William was the second son of David and Anne Boies. He married Mary Hamilton on February 10, 1745 in Westborough, Worcester County.

William and Mary had the following children.

"William was a deacon of the church and active in town ans state affairs. He was town clerk from 1762 to 1766. On May 2, 1775 he was voted a delegate to the Convention held at Watertown, Mass.; from 1777 to May 1779 he was Representative to the Massachusetts State Legislature. Aug. 20, 1779 he was chosen to go to Cambridge, Mass., for the convention to assist in preparing the Constitution. He was a member of the Continental Congress and represented Blandfor at the General Court in Boston in 1780. In that same year he was named a member of the Committee of Correspondence, Inspection and Safety. He also served in the Revolutionary War from January 22, 1777 to March 25, 1777."
