He was born on May 28, 1922, the only child of Joseph J. and Mabel Jackson Teran in Blanco, New Mexico.

His father died when he was three. When he was six his mother remarried and he became part of the Roy D. Lewis family. They moved to Aztec, New Mexico, where he grew up and graduated from High School.

He attended Fort Lewis Junior College in Colorado. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Air Corps. He trained and graduated as a 2nd Lt. Bomber Pilot. With a crew of nine he flew a B-17 in the 379th Bomb Group from Kimbolten, England over many targets in Europe. In August 1944, their plane was shot down on their 20th mission. All but three were able to bail out before the plane exploded. He was held P.O.W in Stalag Luft III in Poland and endured a long cold March during the winter of 1944-45. He was liberated by Gen. Patton's Army in April of 1945.

He met Marva Beckstrom in 1946 and they were married on October 16, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four sons, Douglas (Michele); Bruce (Irene); Brian (Diana); Gary (Lisa); and one daughter, Colleen Marie (deceased).

Bob graduated from the University of Utah and was a coach and teacher in the Jordan School District for 35 years. The family resided in Sandy for 42 years. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Alpine C.C. and won the club championship on 1969. He also later was a member of the Oakridge C.C. After retirement, he and Marva liked to travel and play golf. They have spent a lot of time in St. George and lived there the past three years.
