William Arthur Stuart was the son of Capt. William and Jane ( Whitelaw) Stuart. At age 21, he lost his right arm in a threshing machine accident. He married Jane (Wesson) Parker of Phillipston, MA. She has at least one child from her previous marriage. They live for a while in MA for both their daughters are born there. (Wells "History of Barnet" , page 641)
William is enumerated in 1870 in Barnet as a Steward, age 37, farmer, with Fanny 10, Jane E, 3, Abbe K.1 and Fred E. Parker, 9. All 5 are listed as born MA.
In 1880 Fanny is not enumerated with this family, but Emeline, age 46, born MA, consumptive is. Jane E. is 1, Abbie H. is 11, and Fred E.,18, is listed as step-son with Steward as his surname.

In 1900 he, widow, age 67, wall paper salesman is living with his son-in-law David B. Stevenson, and his wife of 3 years Jane E., their 2 children David S, 1, and Homer 5 months in Peacham. The census of Groton, taken one day earlier, shows William A, Stuart, as a household of one, followed by Fred E. Parker, 39 and his wife Ida, 32.
The Stuart monument gives "1910" as the death date for both William and his sister Marion.
