Mary Nell Wallace Lumpkins, age 79 of Oakland, TN, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Lumpkins was born and reared in Chester County, the daughter of the late Thomas Dewain and Audrey Ann Melton Wallace.
She graduated from Chester County High School in 1947. She married William F. Lumpkins in 1950.
They made their home in Memphis where she worked as a ticket agent for Greyhound Bus Lines and later as an agent for American Airlines, from where she retired.
Mr. Lumpkins preceded in death in 2005. Mrs. Lumpkins had made her home in Oakland since 2005. She was a member of Vanguard, an American Airlines retiree organization. She was also a member of the Fisherville First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three brothers, Harold Wallace and wife Louise of Memphis, Charles Wallace and wife Gayle of Oakland, and Jim Wallace and wife Jean of Houston, TX. She also has two sisters, Jean Coady and husband Guy N. of Eads, and Ann Bailey and husband Lance of Luray. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity Cemetery at Jacks Creek, TN, with Rev. Jack Moore officiating. The family will receive friends at Shackelford Casey Chapel in Henderson, TN from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday.
