Henry Todd Roberts

Todd Roberts Henry was born in Chicago on July 29, 1959; he was booked for a gig in heaven on Sept. 23, 2009. Todd was not known for turning down gigs. What Todd was known for was his love for people and music. He was passionate in his career as a teacher and musician.

Todd's love for music began at the early age of 4 and his parents soon enrolled him in piano lessons. He later learned to play the guitar from his brother Scott. These musical talents flourished and he used them as a powerful teaching tool in everything he was involved in. Along the way, Todd was able to play and record with some of the most gifted musicians this world has seen.

Todd earned a degree in psychology from Texas Tech as well as a degree in music from Sam Houston Institute of Technology. After serving as an intern all across the U.S. and Canada, he received a certification as a registered music therapist. He later got his teaching certificate so that he could pass this wealth of knowledge and love of music to another generation.

Todd's love of music was at the forefront of everything he did, especially when he stepped into school. Teaching was his other great passion. Todd was a teacher at John Tyler High School and worked for TISD for many years. Todd's warm heart and caring nature made him an ideal suit for working with young people with special needs. Todd soon found a niche with these kids that he fell into perfectly. Todd made many friends as a teacher and also met the woman who would be his wife. He and Jan were married just last winter and were getting ready to have their first anniversary.

Todd leaves behind a loving wife, Jan; her children, whom he loved as his very own, Kimberly, Kenneth and Barbie; two grandchildren, Valorie and Ayson; brother, Jody of Huntsville; two nephews, Scott and Jeremy of St. Paul; and four great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Henry; and brother, Scott Henry.

A memorial service and celebration of Todd's life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, in the chapel of Green Acres Baptist Church, under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit.

The family will greet friends following the memorial service at the church. Friends are also invited to Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for viewing.

The family requests those wishing to send flowers, instead donate to The Todd Henry Musical Scholarship, c/o Cooperative Teacher's Credit Union, 1424 WSW Loop 323, Tyler, 75701.
