Information has been received in this city of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Bowen, mother of John Bowen, of this city, at her home at Lorain, Ohio, on Tuesday, of general debility, aged 85 years. The deceased was born in Wales, her maiden name being Evans. She was married to John Bowen at Whitney, Herefordshire, England, and where all her children were born. Her husband was a school teacher and when his son John, the present well-known grocer of this city, was eleven years old, he brought him over to this country and went to Mauch Chunk, where Mr. Bowen Sr. taught school for two years. Not liking this country, he went back again. Young John, however, refused to return with him, and ever since remained in this country. About twelve years ago, Mrs. Bowen's husband died, and John Bowen went over to England and brought her to this city, where she lived with him for two years, after which she took up her residence with her son Thomas in Lorain. The following children survive: John and Arthur Bowen, of this city; James Bowen, of Pittsburg; Thomas Bowen, of Loraine; and William Bowen, who resides near Pittsburg. The deceased was a member of the Episcopal Church. She possessed a bright and active mind and was a great reader. She was thoroughly imbued with the English love for outdoor exercise and was very fond of taking long walks. The funeral takes place this afternoon. John Bowen and daughter Sallie left Wednesday night for Lorain.
