"Dirty Helen" of Sun Flower Inn Dies at age 83.

"Dirty Helen," the woman bartender who said she could outswear anybody in town, died yesterday in a nursing home.
Mrs. Cromell, 83, operated the "Sun Flower Inn" from 1926 to 1960. The bar was better known as "Dirty Helen's" and was a gathering place for everyone from socialites to politicians who went to hear her pithy oaths.
An account of her life, entitled "Dirty Helen," was written in 1960. Born in Noblesville, Ind., Mrs. Cromell moved to Superior, Wis., where she operated a bordello. She ran a similar establishment in Milwaukee before going into the tavern business.
RITES HELD FOR HELEN CROMELL
Funeral servies for Helen Cromwell, Milwaukee, Wisc., were held this morning at Coaltrin Funeral Home with burial following in Crownland Cmetery.
Mrs. Cromell died May 21, in the Muirdale Extended Care Facility, Wauwatosa, Wisc., at the age of 83.
She was born Feb. 26, 1886 in Cicero, daughter of Julius and Emma (Joseph) Worley and she lived her early life in Noblesville. She had lived in Wisconsin since 1920.
Surviving are two sons, Donald and Phillip Cappel, both of Cincinnati, Ohio.
