Tillman Comstock, Jr., 81, of Downing, MO passed away March 19, 2008, at Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO. He had been a resident of Scotland County Care Center for the past three years.

The son of Tillman and Agnes (Westhoff) Comstock, he was born July 28, 1926 in Schuyler County, MO.

On July 11, 1948, in Lancaster, MO he was united in marriage to Phyllis Martin.

Presiding him in death was his first-born son, Gary Lee Comstock; his parents; a brother, Derwood Comstock; and his father and mother-in-law, Minor and Ruth Martin.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Comstock of Downing, MO; three children, Cheryl Eddleman and husband, Mike of Kahoka, MO; Craig Comstock and wife, Mary of Unionville, MO; Candace Magruder and husband, Kerry of Norman, OK; 14 grandchildren, Shawn Erickson of Festus, MO, Nikki (Tom) Worstell of Belton, MO, Laura (Dan) DeKraai of St. Joseph, MO, Travis (Cindy) Eddleman of Olathe, KS, Clint (Malachi) Eddleman of Kahoka, MO, Kristi Eddleman of Indiana, Vanessa (Mathew) Whitaker of Downing, MO, Jason Comstock of Columbia, MO, Andrew, Matthew and Jonathan McCollom of Unionville, MO, Rachel, Hannah and Susanna Magruder of Norman, OK; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother Charles Comstock and wife Ardis of Downing, MO; sisters-in-law, Dorene Comstock of Downing, MO and Bernidene Billiet of Phoenix, AZ; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Junior attended the Swanson Rural School and graduated from Downing High School in 1944. He was an air cadet in the U.S. Army Air Force at the end of World War II. He briefly taught at Spees School in rural Scotland County. He loved to till the soil and bring in the harvest and also raised cattle and hogs on his farm north of Downing, MO. He was active in the National Farmers Organization. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, boating and water skiing. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing together. He had been confined to a wheelchair since a farming accident in 1985.

He was a long-time member of Downing Christian Church where he served as deacon, teacher, and superintendent. He was instrumental in building I-MO Christian Service Camp.

He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and a friend to many, bringing cheer to those who knew him, including residents and staff at the Care Center during his time there.

Funeral services were held March 22, 2008 at Downing Christian Church, Downing, MO with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. A eulogy was given by Kerry Margruder. Music was provided by Craig Comstock singing "Mansion Over the Hilltop, Candace, Rachel, and Hannah Magruder singing "Amazing Grace" and the congregation singing "Wonderful Words of Life" accompanied by Betty Anderson, organist. Pallbearers were Shawn Erickson, Tommy Worstell Jason Comstock, Mathew Whitaker, John Scurlock, and Jim Farley. Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Comstock and Dan DeKraai.

Memorials have been established for the Downing Christian Church CWA. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery, Downing, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing.
