Doss R. Payne Sr., 77, a former Orondo and Waterville businessman, died Sunday morning, February 4, 1990, in Central Washington Hospital.
He was born in Seattle February 26, 1912, to Guy Roy and Helen (Holland) Payne. He grew up and attended school near Brewster. He married Eva Bryant on October 28, 1933, at Okanogan and they lived there until moving to Orondo in 1945. At Orondo, he operated an orchard and his family operated a cafe. The family moved to Waterville in 1954 where he worked as a salesman for Foster Chevrolet and Fox Chevrolet. They moved to Wenatchee in 1963 where Mr. Payne worked at the Juvenile Center and drove a bus for the Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, at home; one son, Doss Payne Jr., of Wenatchee; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Myrna) Smith of East Wenatchee, Mrs. Dave (Marvel) Mires of Waterville and Mrs. Al (Diane) Hansen of Bidwell, Ohio; two brothers, Guy Payne of Bridgeport and Glenn Payne of Okanogan; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and a son.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 am Thursday morning, February 8, 1990 in the Colonial Chapel of the Jones and Jones Funeral Home. Reverend Tim Wilbur officiated. If desired, memorials may be made to the Waterville Ambulance Fund in Doss's name. Concluding services and the interment in the Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens at Okanogan at 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon. Arrangements by the Jones and Jones Funeral Home.
