Charley Earl Jones, 69, died Wednesday of last week at his home in Mountain Home. He was a resident here for most of his life. He was a retired ferry worker for the Arkansas Highway Department. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3246 and the Alley White American Legion Post in Mountain Home.
Born Oct. 17, 1911, he was the son of the late Elmer Walker Jones and Jay Jones. He and the former Melva Harris were married Dec. 11, 1950 at Mountain Home.
He is survived by his wife of Mountain Home; one son, Jim Jones of Mountain Home; one step-daughter, Diane Cobb of Mountain Home; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at Kirby-Blevins-LaFevers Funeral Home Chapel with Irvin Barnes and the North Central Arkansas Veterans Council officiating. Military graveside services were held at East Oakland Cemetery in Baxter County.
Pallbearers were Phil Hoffman, Robert Tilley, Jerry Tilley, Wesley Harris, Larry Havner, and Dwight Cobb.
Honorary pallbearers included Jack Baker, Gary Harris, Dale Dillinger, and Robert Shick.
