EUGENE M. KEYSER

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Eugene Maynard Keyser was born on Feb. 5, 1923, in Cumberland, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas.

He was World War II veteran of the United States Coast Guard; and the recipient of many medals, including the Purple Heart for his service during the Guadalcanal and Pacific Theatre.

Eugene, after dropping out of high school at an early age in life to join the United States Coast Guard, was proud to have received his honorary high school diploma 10 years ago from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland. He was an avid card player and loved to travel with his National Park Pass. Eugene was active in the American Legion and the V.F.W. Before moving to San Antonio five years ago, Eugene worked for the B&O, C&O and Chessie Railroad from which he retired.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Ann Ereon Keyser; his daughter, Susan I. Keyser; his son, Thomas G. Keyser and his wife Constance Lindsey; his daughter-in-law, Harriet Keyser Lopez; his sisters, Doris Lee Keyser, Betty Scollick and her husband Dave; his grandchildren, Shane Patrick Keyser, Michael Thomas Keyser and Erin Keyser Davis; and his great-granddaughter, Caroline Marie Davis.

Eugene had a great life and will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your charity of choice.
