Fred Schubach, age 83 of 5333 West Flagstone Dr., Peoria, IL, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died Saturday June 19, 2004 at 1:00 PM at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
He was born August 20, 1920 in Dauborn, Germany to Salomon and Dena Simon Schubach. He married Louise Michelson December 24, 1941 in Peoria, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 1 son, Michael (and Pam) Schubach, Peoria, IL, 2 daughters, Ellen Schubach (and Vincent Walcek), Southlake, TX and Terry Schubach (and Larry Gelb) of Brookline, MA and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
He was the owner of Fred Schubach Clothing in Galesburg, IL, Peoria, IL and Davenport, IA for 55 years and retired in 1992.
He graduated from high school in Germany in 1938. Following high school he became Master Tailor in Dauborn, Germany. He then moved to Galesburg, IL in 1939. In 1974 he received the "Distinguished Service Award" of the Cosmopolitan Club. He was past president of Knox-Galesburg Symphony, Gale Society of Knox College, Community Arts Council and B'Nai B'rith. He was a member of the Downtown Development Community and a former board member of the Knox County Y.M.C.A. and the United Jewish Appeal. He received the "Distinguished Service Award" from Hebrew Union College.
He was a member of Temple Sholom in Galesburg, IL where he was Board Member Emeritus and the past president.
He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Bronze Star recipient.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday in Temple Sholom, Galesburg, IL with Penny Gold officiating. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Galesburg, IL with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post # 285. Memorials can be made to the Temple Sholom, Knox College, YWCA of Peoria, or American Cancer Society.
The family will be sitting Shiva at the Schubach home, 5333 W. Flagstone Dr., Peoria, IL, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM- 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
