Funeral service for Dan Luman Zachary, 76, of Oklahoma City, former Cement resident, was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Chickasha.

DAN LUMAN ZACHARY was born October 22, 1931 in Ochelata, Oklahoma the son of Hal and Mildred (Campbell) Zachary and died August 12, 2008 at his home in Oklahoma City.

Dan and Gwen Cates were married February 10, 1951 in Laverty, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1953 with a BA degree. He served in the U. S. Air Force as a Major. He served for 18 months in Viet Nam. He flew KC-135, and served as an instructor pilot the entire time. He retired in 1972 after 20 years of service. Dan taught 4th grade for 18 years at Cement Public Schools and retired in 1990. Dan also farmed and ranched in the Cement area for almost 20 years. He moved 2 years ago to Oklahoma City.

Dan was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha where he served as Sunday School teacher and was chairman of the Deacons. He also organized the coat ministry for the youth in the Chickasha community. Dan lived to fish, talk and tell stories. He loved his children, grandchildren, his family, church and God. His wife, Gwen, was the love of his life for over 57 years. He was very generous and he loved to tell people to have a good day.

Dan was preceded in death by: Father: Hal Zachary, 1 son: Danny Zachary.

Survivors include: Wife: Gwen Zachary, Children: Phyllis Thompson, Janet Rice, Annette DeVore, Mary Kay Zachary, Mother: Mildred Zachary, 1 brother: Ted Zachary, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild.

Interment was at the Cement Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
