Mr. Adams was a member of South Boston Church of God and was a retired supervisor of J.P. Stevens. He also served in the Army National Guard. He was an all around athlete and was recognized in boxing, softball, football and bowling. He played one year of football for Appalachian State.
His survivors include five children, Terri Adams DeBord ‘T-Bone' of Greensboro, NC, Brett McCracken and wife, Patricia, of High Point, NC, Gregg McCracken of Albuquerque, NM, Sammy ‘Sonny' Adams of South Boston and Brenda Gayle Adams of Halifax; two step-daughters, Cheryl Thompson and Robin Throckmorton, both of South Boston; four grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. One grandson, Seth Adams, also preceded Mr. Adams in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at South Boston Church of God with Pastor Bruce Hagy, Pastor Grant Dyer and the Rev. Joyce Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at his home.
