Obituary:
Albertie Baxter Cass, better known as Bert, oldest son of Baxter and Mabel Stiarwalt Cass, was born November 20, 1892, near Beaver City, Nebraska, and passed away suddenly at the Newman Grove Hospital June 14, 1961, at the age of 68 years, 6 months, and 24 days.
He resided with his parents for many years in Furnas County, where he received his education in the schools near there. Later in 1911, he and his parents moved to McPherson county, Nebraska. In 1922 he moved to Saunders county and then to Platte county.
On February 2, 1926 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Iona Stickney at the West Hill Methodist parsonage. They made their home near Tabor, Iowa, until 1933 when they came back to this vicinity which has been their home since.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters by a previous marriage, Mrs. Roxie Jones of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Jessie Fillinger of Newcastle, Wyoming; and Mrs. Hazel Lange of Powell, Wyoming; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Coffey of Edison, and Mrs. Euarda Griffith of Oxford; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grand children, two sons-in-law, Alwin Jones and William Lange; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins, and many other relatives and friends who will mourn his sudden passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne of Los Angeles, California, and a son-in-law, Ralph Fillinger.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, and well-liked by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at the Miller Funeral Home Saturday, June 17, at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Raymond E. Nuetzman officiated at the services. "The Old Rugged Cross", "In the Sweet Bye and Bye", and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. Ivan Maricle and Mrs. Hazel Condreay, with Mrs. Fay Smith accompanying at the organ.
Burial was in Valley View cemetery at Genoa. Pallbearers were nephews, Kenneth Herr, Richard Stickney, Raymond Ceder, Johnny Jacobi, Clarence Brandenburg, and Donald Blesson.
Those who attended from a distance were from Monroe, Nebraska, Denver, Colorado, Atlantic, Iowa, Edison, Columbus, Genoa, Fort Crook, Ashland, Waverly, Oxford, Beaver City and Fremont in Nebraska, and Cumberland, Iowa.
