Floyd E. Maytubby, governor of the Chickasaw Indian tribe since 1939, died Sunday in Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was 89.

Maytubby, a quarter-blood Chickasaw, died after a short illness. He was an active civic leader and associated with the Craven Investment CO. He lived at 2421 NW 55 Pl.

Maytubby was born at Caddo, Indian Territory, and attended school at Harley Institute, Tishomingo.

Maytubby's grandfather, Peter Maytubby, was a full-blood Chickasaw Indian and with Maytubby's father served on the Dawes Commission in the government's Indian land allotment.

A banker and insurance executive, Maytubby was state campaign manager for W. P. "Bill" Atkinson, Midwest City, in the Democratic gubernatorial primaries in 1958. A son-in-law, James W. Bill Berry, is a former county attorney of Oklahoma County.

Maytubby was named in the surgeon general's nine-man advisory committee on Indian health in 1959.

Services will be at 3 pm Tuesday in Street & Draper Funeral Home with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home until 1 pm Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, of the home and a daughter, Mrs. James W. Bill Berry, 11113 Bluestem Dr.

Gravesite Details An upright companion white two section headstone. The vase is missing in the center of the headstone.
