Davis Pioneer, Goes
To Eternal Rest
In the death of W.B. Peterman at his home in this city Monday night at 10:10 o'clock, Davis lost one of its best known and most beloved citizens. He was 79 years of age.
Mr. Peterman had been confined to his room or bed for several weeks, following a stroke on Nov. 4th which left his entire left side paralyzed. His condition had been critical the past two or three weeks.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The pastor, Rev. M.D. Gentry, conducted the service, paying high tribute to his life and character.
Music for the occasion was furnished by the Music club, and the Missionary Society had charge of the flowers. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery with Hutchins funeral home in charge.
Pall bearers were P.T. Francis, Pat Rawls, Ed Peterman, Fay Crossett, John and Matt Russell. Honorary: J.P. Hartness, J.R. Crippen, Bobbie Riddle, Chas. Strickland, J.W. Rackley, C.N. Dickson, Joe Drake, S.L. Johnson, Elmer Kelly and M.R. Dalley.
William Barret Peterman was born March 9th, 1865, at Barnesville, Missouri. December 13, 1894, he was married to Miss Bertie Mundy of Marietta, Oklahoma and to this union five daughters and two sons, were born. He is survived by his wife and five daughters, Mrs. A.J. Johnson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Al Ringer, Ardmore; Mrs. Walter Crouch, Weatherford; Mrs. Jess Hughes, San Francisco, California; Mrs. James Reedy Jr., Onset, Mass., and two sons, Clarence of Davis and Marvin of Oklahoma City. All present except two daughters, Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Reedy Jr. who were unable to be present. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Josie Roquemore, Dallas, Texas and nine grandchildren.
At the age of twelve years he moved from Missouri to Texas, later coming to this vicinity. He was truly a pioneer, having lived in Davis for forty-one years. In early childhood he was converted and joined the Baptist church.
He and his wife celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary December 13, 1944, at which time all the children were present.
Out-of-town relatives attending funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Mundy, Granite; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wetherspoon, Tupelo; Mr. and Mrs. Frank King, Stonewall; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Nix, Stonewall; Mr. and Mrs. W.O., Ray and Mary Helen, Idabel; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Peterman, Pauls Valley; Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Thompson, Marietta; Mrs. Jack Boling, Archer, Texas.
Out-of-town friends attending funeral were: Mrs. C.D. Means, Mrs. R.H. Means, Mrs. O.A. Wright, Mrs. E.H. Porter, Mrs. W.R. Layne and Rev. Ira Peak, all of Ardmore; Mr. And Mrs. L.D. Drake and John S. Thompson, Sulphur.
