Native of Nelson came to Lexington in 1872
Hugh Meglone Milton, 74, a tailor in Lexington for nearly half a century, died at 12:10 o'clock this afternoon at his home, 550 Elm Tree Lane, after an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Milton had been a patient at the Good Samaritan Hospital, but was removed to his home two weeks ago. Prior to the illness which proved fatal, he had been active at his tailoring shop at 148 West Short Street.
Born in Nelson County, a son of the late N. B. and Martha McIntire Milton, he came to Lexington in 1872 and had been engaged in the tailoring business here for 47 years. He was educated in the schools of Nelson and Fayette counties.
He was married to Miss Gorda O. Howard in 1885. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary the 28th of this month.
Mr. Milton was a member of the Masonic order and of the Maccabees and was one of the oldest members in point of service of the Broadway Christian Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. L. L. Roach, Stillwater, Okla., and Mrs. W. H. Rush, Versailles; four sons, Arthur H. Milton, Los Angeles, Calif.; Hugh M. Milton Jr., Las Cruces, N. M.; Lewis N. Milton, Lexington, and James Albert Milton, Fort Huachuca, Ariz.; a brother, James A. Milton, Lexington; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The body was removed to the W. R. Milward mortuary.
