Dr. E.C.Smith was valedictorian of his class at Ilion High School, and received $6,500 in various scholarships when he was graduated. At Union College he was third in his class and graduated from the College of Medicine at the University of Rochester. Dr. Smith practiced medicine in Manlius when he was recalled to active Army duty in 1954. Capt. Smith died of an accidental gun shot wound while serving as captain in the Medical Corps in Korea. Dr. Smith was survived by his wife, Jean, who lived on Eagle Village Rd.; three sons, Brett, Mark, and Collier; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith of Ilion, and a brother, Robert Smith of Garden City, California.
