The small stone enclosure holds several family member's remains including those of two children George & Caroline Coots lost while they were in Colorado around 1870. The loss of the children caused enormous grief & the couple brought the remains of the two children back with them to Mason County, in small coffins underneath the seat of a wagon. Needing a burial spot for the children the family bought land & gave it to the Bethel Church members & family to be buried. In reading about cemeteries in this part of Texas it seems the stone enclosures were not uncommon for the graves of this time period. — in Katemcy, TX.
