Reuben owned the spot of land where Jefferson Davis was captured at Irwinville, GA.

Free Mason in 1858 in Irwin Lodge 212, where he served as secretary.

Muster roll of Co. F 49th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia, C. S. A. gives his name as Reuben Walton Clements. 1st Lieutenant March 4, 1862. Resigned, ill health, result of measles July 30, 1862. Enlisted as a Private in Co. H, 4th Regiment Georgia Calvalry (Clinch's) March 2, 1863. Surrendered at Tallahassee, Florida Paroled at Albany, Georgia May 22, 1865.

1870: elected Clerk of the Superior Court, served in that office 20 yrs.
