"Monday, March 3, 1924, W.A. Sparks of El Paso, Illinois, died in a hospital in Peoria, Illinois, following a lingering illness from cancerous trouble. Tuesday evening the body was brought to Corning [Adams County, Iowa] and taken to Mt. Etna, the former home of the gentleman. Funeral services were held at the Dunkard church at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Harry Rogers and interment made in the First Baptist cemetery.

W.A. Sparks was born in Woodford county, Illinois, in 1846, and was about 78 years of age. He was married to Miss Martha Lucas on the 14th of May, 1871, and to this union ten children were born. Mr. Sparks and family were for many years residents of Mt. Etna. Mrs. Sparks passed from this life some years ago. The children are all living. They are: Asa Sparks, of Holdredge, Nebr.; Mrs. Cora Lyons, Ferguson, Nebr.; Abner, of Taylor, Nebr.; George, in Canada; Ernest, of Vancouver, British, Columbia; Dave, Nora and Stella, of Mt. Etna; Mrs. Chester Fox, of Corning; and Harvey, of Bobells, North Dakota.

About three years ago Mr. Sparks was again married and located in El Paso, Illinois, where he was near many relatives. Beside his children Mr. Sparks leaves his wife and several grandchildren, also a brother in Carthage, Mo.; and two sisters." [Obituary transcribed by Cathy Porter-Maynard].
