The community was much grieved to learn of the death in Kansas City October 31, of J. Clerc Archer, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.G. Archer of this city. Previous to October 24, when he was taken ill with influenza, Clerc was a strong healthy young man and that he in one short week should be called, it is nearly unbelievable to his many friends. The whole community extends sympathy to the bereaved wife, father and mother, and family.

Josia Clerc Archer was born in Scottsville, Kans., Nov. 11, 1890 and departed this life Oct. 31, 1918 in Kansas City, Mo. He was the second child in a family of eight children, two boys and six girls. He grew from boyhood to manhood in Glasco. When a boy twelve years of age he joined the Methodist Church in Glasco and continued to hold his membership here at the time of his death. After reaching his majority he left Glasco and worked in Salina, Topeka and Kansas City where he made his home at the time of his death.

He was married to Miss Otta Mable Tally on the 29th day of May 1917 at Grand View, Mo.

Mr. Archer joined the Missouri National Guards with the desire to serve his country on the battlefield, but he did not pass the physical examination and was honorably discharged.

He was taken sick Thursday Oct. 24th with the epidemic of influenza which caused his death the following Thursday at the General Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

He leaves a wife, father, mother, six sisters and a brother besides a host of friends to mourn his sudden and early death.
