He was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Odell, to Frank and Teresa Wolf Stahler. He married his first wife, Gladys Ashcraft, on March 2, 1943. She died April 1, 1973. He later married Virginia Reed Stahler on Dec. 15, 1978, in Pontiac. She died Dec. 14, 2007.

Surviving are son, Dennis (Lauren) Stahler, Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Avis Ann Stahler, Austin, Texas; stepdaughters, Lee Ann (Clayton) Grieff, Odell; Toni (Ron) Paris, Bloomington; Cynthia (Glen) Verdun, Odell; and Leslie (Tim) Whitlock, Minier; stepsons, Daniel (Sharon) Hodgeman, Cloudcroft, N.M., and Donald (Merryl) Hodgeman, Joliet; sisters, Vera Gernentz, Pontiac, and Marjory (Gary) Grafton, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; four brothers, Harold, Lyle, Frank and Alvin Stahler; and three sisters, Helen Schmitt, Eileen Kniery and Rita Hermann.

George had farmed most of his life in and around the Odell area. During the off -season, he was employed with the Illinois Department of Corrections in Pontiac and was a Pfister Hybrids seed dealer.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pontiac. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member and had managed the club for a period of time.

He had attended Dick's rural grade school and was a 1939 St. Paul High School graduate
