She was descended from Charles McMicken, who was a prominent philanthropist and founded and dedicated the McMicken University at Cincinnati, Ohio. He also gave large sums of money to the Methodist bishops who were promoting the colonization of American negroes in Liberia, Africa. ("A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans" - 1918)

* Also had a son Millard Fillmore Wood born in 1850, who settled in Independence, Kansas.
