He was born April 16, 1920 in Macon, Ga., a son of Alexander and Willie Bell (Johnson) McCrae, and he came to this area as a child.
He was a 1938 graduate of The Rayen School.
He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
He worked as a welder for General Fireproofing for 30 years before retiring.
He was also a Mahoning County Deputy Sheriff for 20 years.
He was a member of St. Columba Cathedral.
He was also a member of the Masons, and he enjoyed fishing and swimming.
He married the former Ruby J. Williams July 31, 1955, and she preceded him in death Oct. 25, 2008.
He is survived by two children, Rick McCrae of Youngstown and Alicia Grant of Campbell. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Brittney and Kamorin Grant; a sister, Loudell Kelly of Cleveland; and a sister-in-law, Willa Mae Ramsey of Youngstown.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cindy McCrae; five brothers; and four sisters.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with services immediately following.
Burial will take place at Belmont Park Cemetery.
