Mr. Dick, 76, died Wednesday, July 12, 1989, at his home.
He was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Sterling, the son of Alex and Margaret Wagner Dick, grew up on a farm near Padroni and graduated from Padroni High School at the height of the Great Depression.
He married Esther A. Walker, Oct. 5, 1941, in Sidney,. Neb., and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps March 17, 1942, was stationed at Sa linas, Calif., and later served in a P-38 fighter squadron in London, Paris, Brussels, and Munich during World War II before being dischar gedin 1945.
Mr. Dick returned to Sterling and began a 32-year career with Safeway Stores, Inc., working as a meat market manager in Sterling for many years as well as in Goodland, Kan., and Denver.
He was a member of First English Lutheran Church and served on the current Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Jake Uhrig, Post No. 3541, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sterling; an avid gardener, fisherman and woodcraftsman.
Mr. Dick is survived by his wife, Esther Dick; a son, Mark Dick, both of Sterling; two daughters, Margie Klein of Valenia, Calif., and Sharon Fitzgerald of Orofino, Idaho; a brother, Gerald Dick of Sterling; two sisters, Elvina Schott of Sterling and Elfreda Schlenz of Fresno, Calf., and five grandchildren.
