Jess was the Trumpeter for Troop K, 3rd Regt Cav. out of Kentucky (his stone incorrectly says Illinois) - Spanish American War

He enlisted with his brother Jacob Branon in Williamsburg, Ky and they served 3 years of service.
They were initially stationed at Fort Assinniboine in Montana.
