Born Oct. 19, 1885, in Llano County, Texas; raised on the farm; educated in public schools; taught School; worked as printer's devil and edited country newspaper; studied law at night and during spare time for seven years, being admitted to the bar at the age of 26; served as district Clerk and County Judge of Eastland County; at the age of 39 was elected District Judge 42nd District, later serving as Judge of 88th District, served in House of Representative during regular session of the Thirty-seventh Legislature, being elected State Senator in 1921 from 28th District and still serving as such; was delegate in 1920 to the National Democratic Convention at San Francisco.
