Nita was a member of Ulman Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a teacher for 45 years, starting out in the one-room rural schools of Dogcreek and Topping and ending up at School of the Osage, Lake Ozark, where she retired after 25 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Myna McGowin and husband Buster of Ulman; three grandchildren, Shannon McGowin of Jefferson City, Sheldon McGowin and wife Andrea of Ulman, and Sharla Hyler of Columbia; seven great-grandchildren, Jenni Webber and husband Bob of Lake Ozark, Josh McGowin and wife Annie of Tuscumbia, Jay McGowin of Lake Ozark, Mallory Jarrett and husband Seth of Jefferson City, Jared Hyler and Jarel Hyler of Columbia, and Sean McGowin of Jefferson City; three great-great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Dean and Drew Webber, all of Lake Ozark.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Logan Stone, in 1997 and her sister, Georgia (Stone) Myers, in 1967.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. with services immediately following at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Gene Edwards and Rev. Jim Kruse of Versailes will officiate. Interment will be in Hickory Point Cemetery near Iberia.
