Hattie L. Adair, 79, of 521 N. 7th, Charleston, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Mrs. Adair was born Jan. 13, 1900, in Hutton Township, the daughter of Charles and Artemicia Nees Shafer. She was married to Floyd Adair, who preceded her in death in 1972.

Surviving are three sons, Jerry and Jack Adair, both of Charleston, and John of Morris, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Orville (Joanne) Lawyer, Westfield, and Mrs. Nancy Lawson, Anaheim, Calif; six step-daughters, Mrs. Marian Piersma, Holland, Mich., Mrs. Lorie Watts, Whittier, Calif., Mrs. George Kass, Topeka, Kan., Mrs. David Scruggs, Mt. Vernon, Ill., Mrs. June Bell, Somonauk, and Mrs. William Carlyle, Urbana; four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Connour, Mrs. Dorothy Thomas, and Mrs. Robert Shick, all of Charleston, and Mrs Lottie Brass, Bradford, Ark.; 33 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Two sons and one step-son preceded her in death.

Mrs. Adair was a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Charleston.
